Coins & Artifacts will present a special collection of Swedish historical items at SWEA's Annual Swedish Christmas Fair in San Francisco on December 6, 2025. Below you will find a sampling of what we will offer at this festive event celebrating Scandinavian culture.
Coins & Artifacts offer a selection of historic maps, prints, and books dating from 1750 to contemporary times.
Our Viking collection draws from archaeological sites which reveal currency consisting of coins and precious metals plundered from Western Europe to the Middle East.
This specimen was minted during the reign of Swedish King Valdemar (1250-1275). It portrays a lion with a crossed tongue.
This coin was minted during the reign of Gustavus Adolphus the Great, 'The Lion of the North,' who made Sweden a great European power. He is considered one of the greatest military leaders in history.
Charles XII, or Carl XII, minted this emergency coinage in 1715 to help pay for his costly exploits in the Great Northern War, from his epic victory at Narva to his fateful defeat at Poltava.
Due to a lack of its own gold and silver deposits, Sweden resorted to fixing the exchange rate of its copper coins to gold and silver in 1644. To compensate for the lower value of copper, Sweden minted the world's largest coinage in the form of copper plate money, or plåtmynt, weighing as much as 23.8kg (53 pounds).
Our modern range of coins, including the 1938 2 kronor commemorating the 'New Sweden' colony in Delaware and recent coins celebrating weddings of today's royal family, consist of at least 80% silver.
There is an undeniable charm and affection evoked by our vintage flags, typically made cotton and sometimes wool. Display them to create a festive atmosphere for holidays and family gatherings.
We will offer a variety of pieces of visual art celebrating Swedish culture and history.
